dear creepy old man at our show who could be my dad:
i will happily pose for a photo with you to document your experience at our show, but if you grab my butt one more time, i will wrench every finger off your hand and stick each of them into your eyeballs. then you will remember your secret sisters experience.
sincerely,
lou

ray of sunshine
today is ray lamontagne’s 37th birthday. i love ray for a million different reasons. here are some of them.
his kind demeanor, his sweet disposition, his humility, his sincerity, his fragility.
his ridiculous amount of talent. i firmly believe that one day, when i’m old, people around me will consider ray to be absolutely legendary.
his voice that sounds like butter on a warm...
something to be proud of:
a new song, for our album, handwritten by me, my baby sister, and brandi carlile, tonight in the dressing room in red rocks, colorado. absolutely could not be any happier with the final result. :) yay.
thoughts on writing:
i’m struggling with it. this second album is really gonna test me as a songwriter. i admire writers. any kind of writer… people who can formulate thoughts into logical and emotional sentences really blow my mind. i used to write for no purpose other than to get something out of my head. now i find that i’m writing purposefully, with an end in mind. and it’s screwing...
my sister makes my job easier. 'cause she's real...
i seriously love my job, but what i want most in...
edit: i’m being a whiny butt baby right now because i am a female with pms.
things i want for myself, in no certain order.
a long, successful career during which i get to make great records with great songs, while touring with great musicians and artists.
for that career to allow me freedom of all types…financial freedom, freedom of time, freedom to travel, freedom to call the shots.
to marry someone that i love dearly, and to spend no less than 5 years just being married and having adventures together.
to...
seeing all the tweets coming in about who won awards at the CMAs makes my heart hurt. i’m so grossed out by that stupid genre.

Today is a special day to me. Not because I’m in Michigan. Not because the weather in Michigan is nice. Not because I’m playing a big show in Rochester Hills. Nope. Today is special to me because it marks the day that one of the most amazing people I have ever known was born into the world. Her name is Ann Marie Williams, and she is incredible. I’ve known Ann Marie since...
gatlinburg in mid july
you know, touring as a musician takes you to a lot of places you’ve never seen before…exhibit a: saratoga springs, ny…where we are tonight. and that’s great and all, but i honestly need a vacation from traveling… i need to get away from getting away.
so, in the nick of time, we’re scheduled to have 2 solid weeks off the road in july. such a luxury!...
things i did today:
performed in beautiful weather on a huge stage in central park for about 5000 people.
provided background vocals for my absolute musical hero of all time, brandi carlile, on her song “same old you.” aaaand life comes full circle.
provided background vocals for ray lamontagne during his set.
met and hung out with michelle branch.
after party to celebrate brandi’s 30th...
